Nanna Ditzel
A Pioneer of Danish Design
Nanna Ditzel (1923-2005) was one of the most versatile and creative designers that Denmark produced in the 20th century. She designed furniture, jewelry, tableware and textiles. She shaped her pieces using an equally astonishing variety of materials, from wood and wicker, to silver and fiberglass. In 1959 Ditzel produced the “Hanging Egg Chair.” The piece, suspended from the ceiling by a chain, became a favorite for fashion shoots and an icon of the 1960s. In 1963 Nanna Ditzel designed the aesthetically pleasing and highly functional coat stand, which inspired the hooks and knobs made in collaboration with Schwinn Originals.
